How to Make the Most of Your Boudoir Photoshoot

September 26, 2017

Having a photoshoot should be an exciting and empowering experience. The idea of posing in front of the camera makes many women nervous, but doing some preparation of your own will help to calm your nerves and build a sense of excitement and anticipation. Whether you want to bare all in a boudoir shoot or channel your inner movie star in a pin-up session, here are our top tips to make the most of your photo shoot.

Gather your Thoughts Beforehand

If you have a photo shoot coming up, start researching images and looks which inspire you. Either use an online tool such as Pinterest, or collect cuttings on a mood board or in a scrapbook. This process will help you work out which looks you like and which ones you don’t, which will ultimately help your photographer to get a better idea of your personality and preferences. Once you have been inspired by the gorgeous outfits and creative make up looks you have researched, your confidence will increase and you will be eagerly looking forward to your shoot.

Look After your Health

Although you don’t have to be super slim to be sexy, taking good care of yourself in the days before your shoot will deliver better images. Drinking plenty of water will improve the appearance of your skin, giving it a healthy glow and minimising redness and blotchiness. Reducing your alcohol and salt intake will also help your skin appear smooth and flawless in your shoot, as well helping to avoid bloating; making you look and feel confident and sexy during your photo shoot.

Wear Loose Fitting Clothes to the Studio

The last thing you want is to arrive at the studio, change into your first outfit, and notice a red band around your waist from the tight jeans you wore that morning. Any items of clothing that could leave an impression in your skin can potentially dampen the look of a great lingerie set, which might prevent you from relaxing and feeling confident. So avoid underwired bras, watches, belts and any other tight fitting items of clothing on the day of the shoot.

Do Some Beauty Prep Yourself

Although you will have your hair and makeup done professionally on the day of your photoshoot, try and give yourself a bit of pampering beforehand. Take a bath, remove any body hair that you do not want to see in your images, and moisturise to get your skin looking smooth and healthy all over. If waxing is your chosen hair removal method, make sure to do it a couple of days beforehand so that any redness or irritated skin has had a chance to calm down, and you are not uncomfortable during your shoot.

Avoid Fake Tan and Take Care in the Sunshine

The best look in a photoshoot is a natural glow. Spray tans, lotions and gradual tan moisturisers all have the potential to leave streaks, or rub off on your outfits or props, so it is better to just go au natural. In your photo shoot, a natural looking, healthy glow is best achieved using a combination of make up which highlights your features and strategically placed lighting. Although in Britain we do like to take advantage of all sunny days we get, use strong sun protection when out in the sun to avoid sunburn or tan lines before your shoot.
