You Don't Have to be a Model to be Sexy: Photographer's Modelling Tips

June 26, 2017

The modelling industry may be saturated with people who are tall and slender with perfect, seemingly unattainable proportions but in reality the world of modelling is much more diverse. True, professional high fashion models have to fit this prototype but you can still model without actually being a model.

No matter your shape, size or look, you can model. You can model for yourself, for your partner or just for fun. As photographers of professional and unprofessional models ourselves, we’ve learned a thing or two about what makes people ooze confidence and sexiness without being a model, and we want to share our tips with you.

Check out our top 3 tips on how to model with effortless sex appeal.

1. Embrace What You Have and Work It

It’s an age old cliché that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes but it’s something we firmly believe in. Having conducted photo shoots for hundreds of women, we were reminded of how beautifully diverse women are. Being sexy is all about feeling comfortable enough to work it and be yourself in front of the camera. This comes through embracing what you have: your figure, your imperfections, your style and what suits your look.  True beauty is about your aura, demeanour and vibe: you will look your best when you feel your best. Work with what you have, you’re blessed!

2. Take Inspiration from Untraditional Models

Viewed as an emblem of the 50s and renowned worldwide for her effortless grace, sexiness and beauty: Marilyn Monroe is perhaps the most famous individual who defeated stereotypes about modelling. Plus sized and stunning, Marilyn's influence is evident in the vintage shoots we perform and the look that people want to achieve- and rightly so! She showed the world that you don’t have to fit certain criteria to model: her beauty was about sexiness rather than pageant beauty. She expressed her sexuality without being embarrassed or ashamed, as demonstrated by the iconic picture in which her skirt blows up, which was very radical for her era.

3. Don’t Feel Ashamed to Be Who You Are

We all have insecurities and everyone feels inadequate at times but in front of the camera, you can be who you are or want to be! Boudoir photo shoots are designed to empower you with self-belief in your own beauty and sexiness. In front of a photographer whom you feel confident with, you will feel emboldened with the confidence to be who you are, with as much or as little clothing as you feel comfortable with. Photo shoots are all about you; we’re just the facilitators.
